On January 24, 2004 the Church Council came together for a
Visioning, Planning and Goal Setting Retreat
The members of the council met to review our current mission
statement,
the needs of our church and community, and develop a set of achievable goals
After a brief gathering time and breakfast (provided by Rev. Kethley - thank you Paul)
Bob Reed from FUMC Conroe, the facilitator for our retreat, explained the purpose of the retreat
and how we were going to achieve our goal of identifying and choosing
some achievable goals for our church to aim for over the next five years
First we were organized into six groups small enough to make decisions but large
enough to have diverse ideas

after the first discussion session we returned to the Fellowship Hall to present our thoughts
to the whole group

After some discussion and a quiz to get us to think about just where our church stands
in regards to growing, stagnating or dying

Bob sent us back into our small groups

We had a total of three sessions, the third being to come up with the goals
we would like to see FUMC Lindale achieve in the next five years

Stan had to "raise his groups report to a new level"

After the presentations Bob helped us to eliminate the duplicate
ideas,
identify the unique ones (47 in all) and organize those ideas

so we could vote on the ones we most wanted to aim for

Bob and Stan counted "hands" for each topic and tallied them up
it wasn't all serious though. Here Dwayne decided to pick
on Becky
(at least the note didn't say "kick me")
