Wayne’s Word

Each Sunday morning as they began class, the fifth graders would line up and each child would recite their one section of the Apostle's Creed in the order that it was written.

That teaching method worked well for about four months.

Then one Sunday a problem arose. Class began as usual. The first little girl recited her line flawlessly: "I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth." The second, a boy, stood up and said his sentence: "I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord." But then silence descended over the class.

Finally, one girl, who felt she had discovered the problem, stood up and loudly said, "I'm sorry, sir, but the boy who believes in the Holy Spirit is absent today!"

In some ways our church is like the different segments that make up the creed in our story and too often we only know that part of the creed (church) that we are passionate about.

The church is like the whole creed, no one part more important than the other. When we become so near-sighted that we can only see what affects us, we effectively hinder the ministry of the church.

While it is physically impossible to participate in everything that goes on in a church, let's be those who through prayer and encouragement, support the whole of what the church does and is about.

See you Sunday,
Wayne

Confirmation Sunday
This Coming Sunday, May 6

These 6-graders have met each week for several months in order to enrich their faith and to know God in ways they never have before.

Senior Pastor Rev. Wayne Flowers and Associate Pastor Rev. Roger Clayton have taught, mentored and coached these young men and women to come to know themselves as Christian disciples, and they are now ready to move from their "children" designation to "youth".

Please come be a part of this act of worship, dedication and celebration.

Enroll Now!
We're taking reservations for the fall session right now! Ms. Gina and the teachers are already planning for an extra class of pre-K's, and we still have room in other age groups too.

Let your friends know...you don't have to be a church member to enjoy a 5:1 teacher ratio (each class of 10 has 2 GREAT teachers), a safe Christian environment and the personal attention your child deserves.

The school operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 2:30 (early morning dropoff also available) during the school year.

ATTENTION TEACHERS WITH YOUNG KIDS! Our school year starts that week when you have to be "in-service" so you don't have to worry about what to do with your own children that week!

Call 903-882-8626 for enrollment and/or for more information.

And...ask Ms. Gina about the special camp sessions this summer! They're awesome!

End of the Year B.I.G. Program!

Sunday evening, May 6, 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary.

You're invited to come celebrate another hugely successful year in the B.I.G. Wednesday after-school children's program.

Listen to the K thru 3rd-graders, as they interpret scripture...in SONG and with a BASEBALL theme!

Hear the 4th- and 5th-graders tell you about their studies, accomplishments and missions too.

We have around 100 after-schoolers on Wednesday afternoons that we pick up in the big ol' white bus from their respective elementary schools. They participate in music, recreation, crafts and Bible study until about 6:00 PM. It's all free and open to any elementary school child in the Lindale Independent School District.

There's one more Wednesday afternoon B.I.G. session on Wednesday, May 9! Then we break when public schools let out...but watch this newsletter for weekly summer activities your child might enjoy.

UM Army!

Big House!

What do these have in common?

They are activities coming up this summer that you don't want your youth-age kids to miss.

Big House is a summer mission-oriented activity for junior high age youth. The participants plan, organize and execute work activities such as painting, yard work and light home improvement. Their clients are people who may not be able to have these items addressed any other way. Dates for this summer's Big House program: July 26-29.

UM Army is a week-long summer mission for high school age youth. Their clients are also families who need help repairing and maintaining their homes. Carpentry, light construction and landscape maintenance are some examples of the work done under adult supervision. UM Army this summer: July 15-21.

These are excellent and very productive ways for youth in these two groups to learn to serve others while also acquiring skills that will serve them all their lives.

Call the church at 903-882-8506 for more information.

Tribe Time activities in "Babylon: Daniel's Courage in Captivity" help cement the Bible truths the kids have learned in their visit to Babylon.

We got some feedback that the video last week was enjoyable, so
here it is again. It's about 6 minutes long, but every minute is good! Show the kids and grandkids what a day in Babylon looks like.

Parents' stuff: All of our staff and volunteers have been trained in our "safe sanctuary" policy and procedures and have been background-checked. Check-in and check-out are carefully planned and monitored

Summer Camp Registrations Being Taken!

The time for this year's Northwest District Camp will be here before you know it, so register your campers while you're thinking about it!

June 18-22 are the dates to remember. Camps are for children beginning 5th grade this fall and all ages up through those who will be seniors in high school.

The Lakeview location is ideal for campers to have fun, learn and share while experiencing some of God's most awesome gifts of nature. Be sure your kids and youth have this opportunity.

Give the church office a call at 903-882-8506 for more information.
And by the way, if you're an adult and would like to be a camp counselor, check with the church; we can always use more people to influence the young people

"
Women in God's Sight"

If you'd like to be a part of a group of women (all ages!) who meet every Friday morning for study, fellowship and support for each other, make plans to join them this Friday and every Friday at 8:45AM. They meet in the New Covenant Sunday School class in the Family Ministries Center; that's the northwest corner classroom of the building.

Childcare is provided...the group will take a break from regular get-togethers when the Lindale schools let out for the summer.

You don't have to be a church member to come...call Kim Johnson at 903-882-6553 for more information.
Bible Study Under Way...

But it's never to late to start!

What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this Bible study based on the book by Priscilla Shirer, "Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted", Ms. Shirer redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God's invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.

The study, led by Pat Turner, is just under way. If you'd like to take part, call the church office at 903-882-8506.

A "Warning Fine"

Thanks For Your Support!
They go on to say, "we really need sympathy cards!"

Who would have though that old, "repurposed" (AKA used) greeting cards would make such beautiful and unique cards that can be purchased for as little as 25 cents? And further, who would have thought a 25-cent card here and there could make such a significant contribution to the "discipling effort"?

The ladies want you to never throw away a card...and if you have NEW ones who've outlived their purpose, they can use those too! These ladies can make pieces of personal art out of cards you might never use!

And stop by the table outside the sanctuary in the education wing and pick up some of these beautiful cards.
A message from the Ladies of "The Card Project" "We would like to thank you for all the cards donated to our Card Project. We have contributed over $400 to the debt retirement fund with your help!"
We Care (We Really Do!)
You probably already know about our wonderful ministry of making gently used
clothing available to the community at unbelievably low prices.
The volunteers at our We Care "thrift store" want you to know that we have an inventory
of wheelchairs, walkers and other similarly helpful items available for use.
If you or someone you know know has such a need, come by the store and
visit with us...while you're there, you might find that nearly new outfit you
need! Or call the church office.

Location, Dates and Times of Operation
The "We Care" store is located at 207 Henry in Lindale. We're open for
business each Friday and Saturday from 10AM to 4PM and each Wednesday
from 8AM to 3PM. Donations are received on Tuesdays and Thursdays from
8AM to 11AM.

Hope to see you here on Sunday!

Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and other items are available for anyone in need to borrow from our We Care Thrift Store. If you have any questions about this, contact Pam at the church office.

We need your help!
If you know of anyone in our church family who is in the hospital, please be sure and let the church office know. Our pastors make regular trips to the Tyler hospitals and would love to be able to visit and pray with them while they are there.

Are you feeling the high price of groceries, gas and greeting cards?
We can't help you on groceries or gas, but you can save lots on greeting cards by buying them at the church.
The cards rack is located outside the library door and we will try to have a variety to choose from (including seasonal choices).
The cost is 25 cents per card (there are a few specially done cards that are a dollar).
You can't beat that anywhere. All monies go to help the church in any area that it is needed.
Stop by and shop.
Thank you!

She has the flower calendar

How many excuses can you come up with for not wearing your name tag to Church and Sunday School?
Here are some that were heard this week:
‘It’s in the car.’
‘I left it on the dining table.’
‘I hate to wear a name tag.’
‘I don't have a good place to pin it.’
‘My dog ate it.’
No matter what excuse you have, it is very important that our new members get to know you.
Please wear your name tag to Church and Sunday School.
If the dog has actually eaten your tag, then tell Pam and she will make a new one! Thanks!

Emergency Prayer Chain
We have a new prayer chain program that will be effective as soon as this gets in the newsletter and in the bulletin. This prayer chain will be active when the office is closed.
James and Mary Thompson will chair the program, their telephone number is 882-8320. If something happens when the office is closed, call and they will in turn call the pastor and the prayer team. This will allow all to be covered in prayer at all times.
James and Mary Thompson will be listed in the bulletin every Sunday as the contact for the Emergency Prayer Chain.
Please use this to cover your much needed prayer help so our church family can support one another when it is most necessary.
